ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a voluntary standard that gives new guidelines for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
Starting on June 1, 2024, window coverings sold in the United States have to follow the new safety standard. The majority of products will change to cordless styles. Treatments with a continuous loop must include a certain tension device that prevents the loop from becoming a strangulation hazard. These rules will notably decrease the possibility of window treatment cord injuries and deaths among small children.
